Obligatory ePaper Display

My first full ESPHome build, and it’s the obligatory ePaper display!

The display itself is a WaveShare 7.5" panel and it’s being driven by WaveShare’s E-Paper ESP32 Driver Board which has the advantage of an onboard FFC connector, so no need for a separate driver board.

At the top of the panel there’s also a LD2420 mmWave sensor used for presence detection (to intelligently control display refreshes), and there’s a separate DC-DC board to power the ESP32 and LD2420 (as the ESP32 can’t supply enough power for the LD2420 and display on it’s own).

The frame itself is a standard off-the-shelf phot frame from our local supermarket chain, and I’ve replaced the standard photo mount with a custom 3D printed recessed mount for the panel, a back panel with board mounts, and stand (printed parts are in black as that’s the only filament I had at the time, but I’ve now got used to it).

Plan now is to find a deeper box style frame to do a 2nd display which can be wall mounted in our kitchen or hall.
